Greece Monthly Backgammon Tournament Winner
Filomila Karantzali won the third monthly tournament of the Greek Backgammon Federation, which took place on January 5 in Athens. Thessaloniki native Karantzali, who was the only female backgammon player at the Greek backgammon tourney, later expressed her excitement saying: I'm so happy about winning the Main… It felt so nice beating all the Greek guys…"
The Greek Backgammon Federation is an organization that sets monthly ranking tournaments at various locations. The third backgammon tournament took place on Saturday, January 5, 2008 in Athens with 35 of Greek backgammon players' community.
Filomila Karantzali, the only woman among January backgammon tournament entrants, won the Main event after 10 hours of consecutive playing. The first rounds consisted of 9-point matches, the semifinals of 11-point and the main event was a 13-point match. Charis Christidis was the main finalist, and the semifinalists' titles were taken by George Kleitsas and George Sotiriadis.
Pleased with her success, Karantzali intends to participate at the Nordic Open tournament, which will take place in March, 2008 in Copenhagen as part of the World Series of Backgammon tour.
